OMAD Intermittent fasting DAY 337! Dry fasting day 4!


Hi friends: It's day 337 of omad! It is also day 4 of my dry fast! On Father's Day we went to Pickle Barrel for the first time. The food was amazing. Today my daughter asked me if we could go again for dinner. So we had dinner at Pickle Barrel. I ordered the BLT and my side was a cesar salad. My daughter ordered the Montreal smoked meat on a pretzel bagel which came with poutine. I think she is excited about going to Montreal in a couple of weeks. My husband had the bacon cheeseburger which came with fries. As you all know I don't eat like this during the week but when I do eat like this on weekends I feel guilty afterward. I understand that I have lost all my weight and I am in maintenance mode. I have not gained back the weight but I also have this thought in the back of my head that worries I will. When  I was on this journey I promised myself that I would eat clean but life does not always allow for clean eating. Sometimes I don't want to eat clean. Sometimes a girl wants to eat what she wants to eat. So that is something that I want to work on. I want to eat clean during my feasting time but I want to have the option of eating what I want as well guilt free. That is the purpose of intermittent fasting for me...guilt free eating and also me delaying when I eat but not denying what I eat. 
As for my dry fast, I started to drink water at about the 18-hour mark of my fasting. It was 32 degrees celsius here in Ontario. I must admit that before going to dinner we did some errands. Nothing major when I got home which was at 3pm, I had to go for a nap. I slept until 6:30pm. Then we went for dinner. I have not done this in a long time. (Felt the need for a nap in the middle of the day) Yikes. Maybe this is not the ideal time to experiment with dry fasting. It is so damn hot!

OMAD Intermittent fasting DAY 336! Dry fasting day 3!

Hi friends: It's day 336 of omad! It is also day 3 of my dry fast. My headache was only slight today. I had it while sleeping. I did not drink any water during my fasting period. However, I did have my omad an hour earlier. I had a lot of errands today and I had my daughter with me. My daughter eats three meals a day. I did agree to go for lunch with her but we got so busy that we did not eat lunch until about 4pm. So I was an hour off.
McDonald's was her choice of a restaurant. Not the best food choices for me today but it is what it is. I could have had the chicken caesar salad but I had a chicken wrap with fries and a coffee. Why? I didn't feel like eating a salad. I wanted a wrap. The picture looked so good. The wrap was not very satisfying but the fries were yummy. This was my one meal, so I didn't feel that guilty. Who am I fooling? I feel guilty for having McDonald's for my omad! Ugh! I try to have nutrient dense meals and this was not one of them. Tomorrow is another day. My husband met up with us at McDonald's. However, I had so much work waiting for me when I got home. I wanted to clear it before the long weekend. I realized at 8pm that I had not drunk any water. So my fasting window was closed later than usual. I drank just water until 11pm. I didn't want to drink one liter of water in a 1 hour period so I sipped and sipped. Today was very off for me. Yikes.

OMAD Intermittent fasting DAY 335! Dry fasting day 2!

Hi friends: It's day 335 of omad! It's also day 2 of my dry fast! While sleeping I had a headache, however, I didn't feel thirsty. Another hot day, so I shortened my walk to 30 minutes. Today's meal was ribeye steak and for dessert, I had pineapple and watermelon. I still have a sweet tooth. I think the best compromise, for now, is eating fruit. 
I have been getting off track by eating popcorn with my omad. Not a good food choice for me, eating popcorn is a slippery slope for me and this habit reminds me of where I was last year. Just eating for the sake of eating. I could never just watch television without having a snack. I switched snacks for sipping on water during my fasts. Now I am not drinking water I have nothing to substitute with. So this should be interesting. I drank one liter of water during my feasting time. I also had a large coffee from Tim Hortons. My mother in law was so kind to buy this treat for me. I love my Timmies.

OMAD Intermittent fasting DAY 334! Dry fasting!

Hi friends: It's day 334 of omad! Today I completed my first dry fast. I incorporated it with my intermittent fasting. I fasted for 20 hours and had an eating window of 4 hours. I didn't drink any water, coffee or tea during my 20 hours fast. I waited until my 4-hour window to have my liquids. What is dry fasting? It is a type of fast that doesn't allow you to drink any water during your fasting period. The lack of water can accelerate some of the benefits that you get on a water fast such as metabolic health and reduced inflammation. This type of fast is for people that have experience with the normal fasts. If you don't this could be a very miserable experience for you. Do not attempt unless you are a pro at fasting and please check with your doctor first. 

I am very close to my one year anniversary of omad/intermittent fasting. I fast 20 hours per day which is not uncomfortable for me at all. So I felt confident attempting this dry fast. I didn't give myself a time period because I understood that the dry fast should be attempted by people that are on a ketogenic diet. Why? Because if you are on the keto diet the body will be able to sustain itself during the fast without hunger pangs, cravings, and even thirst.  I am not on a keto diet at the moment. I eat whatever I want during my four hour feast period. So I worried about what would happen. I am only going to try this on a day to day basis. So I felt ok about trying it. I vowed to listen to my body. 

During my fast, of course, as soon as I closed my window. I went into panic mode and I got a headache. My headache was mild and I didn't take any Tylenol because I knew what this headache was all about. Before I started the dry fast. I made sure that my meal consisted of good fats. I had one liter of water plus a coffee during my feast. I had a humongous ribeye steak, chicken wings and a bowl of papaya. My ribeye was at least one pound. 

I opened my omad with the exact meal I had yesterday. I didn't feel hunger during my dry fast and I had zero thirsts, but I did have my usual cravings for sugar. The papaya helped me with those cravings. It was extremely hot today. So instead of my usual one hour walk. I walked only for 30 minutes and I had my daughter with me for the company. She hates to walk. lol.  I'm going to continue this dry fast until my one-year omad anniversary. However, I will take it day by day. If I happen to be outside on a really hot day and my body needs water I'm going to drink water. I will keep track of those days. It's too soon to really say if I think it's safe for me to do this type of fast or if I have experienced any benefits yet. I'm asking that each of you do your own research before attempting. I didn't weight myself because this dry fast is not about weight loss. However, I will keep track of the numbers for the sake of weight maintenance. I do weigh-ins on Saturday mornings.

OMAD Intermittent fasting DAY 333!

Hi friends: It's day 333 of omad! It's ribeye steak and bone broth for dinner tonight! I had bacon for dessert. I shared popcorn with my daughter while we watched a movie. 

Are you getting all the vitamins and minerals that you need while doing omad/intermittent fasting? Many people do not supplement but I do. When you are eating once or twice a day, it is very important that you are getting all of the vitamins and minerals that your body needs. I add blackstrap molasses to my coffee daily. I add take magnesium, vitamin, foti, msm, and fish oil currently. I eat at least one steak daily. 

Bone broth is excellent for supplementing. I make bone broth by using beef bones. I cover the bones with water and add apple cider vinegar, peppercorns, and pink Himalayan sea salt. I let the broth cook for 48 hours on low heat. I skim off the impurities as the broth simmers. For added collagen, I add chicken thigh bones. 

Benefits of bone broth are decreased joint pain, collagen, hair growth, and it is great for the skin. If you are new to omad bone broth is known to help with fasts and the keto flu.

OMAD Intermittent fasting DAY 331!

Hi friends: It's day 331 of omad! Have you tried extended fasting? An extended fast is defined as a fast that lasts more than 24 hours. I do not recommend extended fasting if you are new to intermittent fasting or omad! It is incredibly important to know your body. It is recommended to start slowly and build from there meaning starting with short fasting and increase your time slowly. 

The best time to try a 24 hour fast is on a day that is stress-free if possible. If you have a day off from work that would be great. If you are extremely busy that would work too, you see you want to be busy to keep your mind off food. Once you have successfully conquered your first 24 hours fast, try for  48 hours but do not do this the same week. I love to mix extended fast with my regular intermittent fasting. Sometimes if I get home too late, I will turn that day into an extended fast. My longest fast was 6 days and it was amazing. I documented my experience here.

Today's dinner was a gigantic ribeye steak, mangos, sunflower seeds and berries for dessert! Yum!

OMAD Intermittent fasting DAY 330!

Hi friends: It's day 330 of omad! Today was my scale day. As many of you know I do not weigh myself every day. My scale said 131.2 today. I take that number with a grain of salt. Why? If I weight myself an hour later I might be a higher or lower number.

If you have been doing intermittent fasting for a while and you have noticed that the pounds are not coming off. It's time to start taking your measurements. In some cases, you will see inches go before pounds. You don't have a tape measure? It's time to buy one. Check your dollar store first.

I have never taken my measurements but I do use my old jeans as my measurement tool. It feels so good when I try on a pair of jeans that were tight or some that I could not fit into. But now I am swimming in them. They are so baggy and lose. Celebrate your non-scale victories.

Today's dinner was a simple omad! No keto or carnivore! My family and I went to 1289 Sushi. I had the general tao bento box and my daughter and husband each had the beef rib bento box. It was delicious. Later that night we went to see the movie "The Incredibles 2" I shared popcorn with my daughter. The perfect way to spend my birthday weekend!

OMAD Intermittent fasting DAY 329!

Hi friends: It's day 329 of omad! Back to my tradition of eating bacon and eggs on Friday. I love breakfast for dinner. Today I added steak to it. This is one of my husband's favourite meals. He could be a carnivore seven days a week. He loves the all meat diet. This morning I didn't go for a walk because it was too hot. So I  walked after dinner. Then I went and had the most beautiful walk. It was sunny but there was this beautiful breeze. So lovely. I love listening to podcasts while walking or just music. I think I'm a podcast junkie.
My mother in law gifted us with some sourdough bread. She told us that sourdough bread has probiotics which are good for gut health. Are you having trouble sleeping? Have a slice of sourdough bread. The sour bread was delicious. I had a slice as my dessert. It was delicious. I have not had a slice of bread in ages.

OMAD Intermittent fasting DAY 328!

Hi friends: It's day 328 of omad! I fasted for 20 hours today. This was a clean fast as always. During my fasts, I only drink water. Sometimes I do have a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar mixed in 500 mils of water. I do not consume anything that will spike my insulin. I don't even add sweeteners to my water. Some friends ask me if it is ok to drink coffee or tea. Yes absolutely but drink it black. When I have consumed anything that has an artificial sweetener my body still feels that it is sugar and reacts accordingly. I do drink a decaffeinated coffee during my meal and I add heavy cream and one tablespoon of blackstrap molasses.
I noticed that when I started my weight loss journey I was drinking about 4 cups of coffee a day. I added half and half cream with 1 teaspoon of sugar to it.  The more coffee I drink the more I wanted. My first cup was at 8am and by 11am I felt tired. So I need another cup with something sweet of course. Maybe a cookie or a slice of cake. I had a really hard time sleeping at night. When I started to substitute with molasses I started to only want one cup but I still had trouble sleeping. I switched to decaf at about 6 months into my journey. I have zero trouble sleeping since but I also think that my reduction in sugar is the reason also.
Today's dinner was steak. Just steak today. Yep, today was a carnivore meal. My entire family had steak too. I did notice that my daughter was not as nervous about her Math exam this morning. Hmmm...I wonder if there is a correlation between the carnivore diet and reduction in anxiety.

OMAD Intermittent fasting DAY 327!

Hi friends: It's day 327 of omad! I'm so close to 365 days of omad! Today I was actually craving steak. I wanted a ribeye fatty steak and that is just what I had for dinner! It was so delicious. I made my husband and daughter chicken teriyaki. Tomorrow everyone will have steak. My daughter is doing exams this week. Her most challenging subject is Math. So I have planned to make her a big fatty ribeye steak for dinner the day before that exam. I will ensure that she also has a nice breakfast with lots of good fats as well. I honestly wish that I had started to eat more red meat when my daughter was younger. She eats whatever I make for dinner but other than that she still eats pretty much what she likes. She is a teen. We have stopped buying junk food meaning chips, cookies, cakes, biscuits and now buy fruits for snacks. Dinner consists of a meat product and veggies for my husband and daughter. My staple is usually steak and I add whatever I want. As for snacks we have very limited junk food here anymore. I believe that kids will eat whatever you provide them. So that is why I regret not finding keto and carnivore sooner. In elementary school, we packed a lunch together but in high school, they have the cafeteria and they can buy whatever junk food they want. Moral of the story, its better late than never. As I have mentioned in previous blogs, my teen daughter has eliminated dairy and has minimized her sugar intake at home and her face has cleared. Why didn't' I see the dairy and sugar connection when I was a teen.  She also only washes her face with water and uses fresh aloe vera as a moisturizer. What an improvement! I am doing the same thing now. I hope my acne scars clear.

OMAD Intermittent fasting DAY 326!


Hello friends: It's day 326 of omad and today was strictly an intermittent fasting day. No keto, no carnivore today...however, I did have a steak but I also had fruit and a vegetable. I had a sugar-filled dessert too.  Dinner was steak, papaya, and corn. I had peanut butter chocolate ice cream for dessert. The one thing that I have been consistent about is intermittent fasting. As for my experiments with carnivore and keto...Well, things have been all over the place. I know that I love having a steak a day but some days I need and want more than just meat. I love variety. I love eating food, vegetables, junk food, and desserts. The weird thing is things have come full circle. I lost the majority of my weight with omad/intermittent fasting but for some reason, I wanted to maintain with keto or carnivore. I am noticing that I can maintain with just omad/intermittent fasting. Time to listen to my body!

Some facts about papaya:
Papaya contains significant amounts of fiber, folate and vitamin A and C. It's also low in calories, making it a good choice for those looking to lose weight.
Eating a bowl of papaya cubes can make you feel full for a longer period of time. It is a nice filler food. Eating papaya helps you to snack less.
